Slope Mowing

Not All Tractors Are Alike

Slope mowing is a process whereby any mowing done in excess of 15 degrees should utilize a slope mower.   While slopes and hillsides add aesthetics and dimension to the landscape, those same hills and slopes can be very dangerous to mow without the right type of slope mowing equipment.   This puts the customer at risk even if your contractor has insurance, because they are exceeding the limits of their equipment.  It is because of this Beech Hill Vegetation has utilized a Ventrac tractor and this year 2022 we introduce our TTR 7600 Infinity.  The TTR is far more capable and will be phasing out the Ventrac on larger jobs.  Both offer unique combination of benefits that no other pieces of equipment can  being maneuverability in tight quarters, safety for our operators and customers and a  finished product our customers are expecting.  The Ventrac, open station, offering slope mowing  up to inclines of 30 degrees (58% grade) of grasses and.   The TTR 7600 is a closed station unit handling perfect for steep slopes and invasive species.  It can handle side slopes of 40 and traversing 45 degrees.  It can handle any farm attachment being flail, tillers, disks to name a few and a forestry mulcher with a capacity of 6" stock".

What are the advantages for our customer:

  • Both  tractor frames are articulated and oscillate  giving them incredible flexibility, gentle touch on turf, maneuverability around your fruit trees, between your vines and an advantage on slopes and rough terrain . (Safety and desired finished product)

  • Wet terrain is not an issue due to its  low ground pressure.

  • A low ground pressure tractor will rarely can get stuck or sink in whereby leaving unsightly ruts.

  • They can handle tough slope but can also mow just as well on flat ground too.

For this reason we utilize these slope mowers.   A slope mower is designed from the ground up taking into account multiple applications with  Slope being at the top of the list. They are unique  tractors which were  designed not only to mow grass professionally and in a residential environment, but having the ability to mow across extremely wet areas (wetlands, marsh, bogs and wet lawns) without leaving a trace of traversing.  Having the ability to mow heavy brambles, pricker bush, bar berry (harbor the tick which cause Lyme Disease), phragmites, and much more up to 1" in diameter.  They mow without scalping, mow around ponds because the deck is floating and falls away and mow slopes in any direction up to 45 degrees and greater without the chance of roll-over always a concern of the operator and the land owner.

What  makes the slope mower unique:

  • It is permanent all-wheel drive
  • It has an extremely low center of gravity
  • It utilizes  dual wheels on all 4 wheels serving two purposes low ground pressure and stability on slope
  • They are articulated & oscillating  giving uncanny maneuverability
  • Both hydro-statically controlled giving greater safety
  • With weight transfer  giving greater traction on slope and float on attachments
  • The TTR has a reversing operators station where the front can be the back or vise versa

In our territory, MA & VT, the majority of our applications field restoration & occasional lawn are on slope. and can be in a very wet environment where the traditional tractor bogs down.

Applications For a Slope Mower

The applications of a slope mower abound  from maintaining nurseries  of varied tree stock, berry growers, fruit tree growers,  tree farms and lawns.  All require a compact tractor which is extremely maneuverable.  Most of these applications and others are all on slope and perfect for services we provide.

Pasture Restoration in Wet Conditions

When providing pasture restoration we often find the conditions to be wet.  Wet because the growth is not allowing the sun to penetrate whereby the ground becomes exceeding moist and unstable.  In wet conditions a traditional tractor will leave deep ruts or worse could get stuck.  The end results are the same unsightly ruts and damage done to the field having to be repaired at a later date and more cost associated with the repair.   We have mowed customers fields during extremely wet conditions where the field appeared dry, but on closer inspection yielded standing water.  In some cases as much as 4" this served no issue.  The previous providers utilizing  traditional tractor 2 wheel drive and 4 wheel drive  all regularly required costly extraction and the required rut repair.
